in the city of Kodiak

Kodiak is unique town unlike other Alaskan town. Because maybe earliest to contact Russian influence even before Sitka. Also fishing  industry making many story (like the deadly catch…) and connecting international relationship.

It was ship “Start of Kodiak” before but now this is building for fish cannery permanently connect with land! it is confusing!

Oh, bear should be everywhere but only this I saw at this time.

deer was crossing road!

Tsunami Monument in 1964 earthquake.

Kodiak

I flew over Kodiak! It’s typical rainy weather…

City entrance, I wish sunny day for next time…

Wow, Kodiak is fish capital, and Tsunami ready, storm ready communities. it looks Japan. Ducks unlimited???

A lot of crab pot stack here for winter Bering sea!

Nenana classic, Denali…

Driving down to Anchorage is feel refreshing, especially spring time, the Parks Highway is much better than winter road!

For Nenana Classic, this tripod is still solid on the Tanana River!

Denali (Mt. McKinley) view point makes me always happy!  weather is not great just before here. But once arriving view point, we got sun and blue sky!

Google Latitude

I am driving down to Anchorage now! and fly to Kodiak tomorrow (Friday), then back to Fairbanks on Sunday before Southeast. This is good opportunity to test Google Latitude. This is scary enough detail location program!!! It may be going to go sensationally important tool for future expedition or not! Watch my web site’s left menu bar. My face should move on the map. even if you click picture below, more detail location window will open.

TSP (thermal state of permafrost) on Mars

Our permafrost project book “Temperature Book” (code name “project P”) is on going and progress! Planetary scientist Mike (Mellon) spending time for the running Martian temperature model for this project! Entire results will be in the book that publish next spring in 2012. Here is some profiles!

Here is ground temperature profiles near Equator! about -54 dC (zero annual amplitude temperature).

Here is ground temperature profiles at Mid latitude (35d) like Utopia Planetia! about -64 dC (zero annual amplitude temperature).

Here is ground temperature profiles Polar region (70d)! about -104 dC (zero annual amplitude temperature). Also we could not down temperature below -125dC, because of atmospheric CO2 condensation.

If we have a ice at 50cm below ground (likely Phoenix lander site), inter-annual variations are much narrower below 50cm.

Spring -first things-

Maybe many people like spring, I love this time of the year. Spring has many first things!!  like first mosquitos of this year  I saw yesterday :{

First spring strawberry, woooo…..feel & smell spring!!

First rain!! no snow!  I seldom like rain really but exception today! rain (soil) smell good!

7th grade students from the watershed school, Fairbanks checking frost tube (that was 179cm today!), they also have exciting about rain!

Then end of the day, 50 students are gathered in Fairbanks from all over the Alaska, who met before but first time in this year! That was nice busy day!

iPhone Tracker

Recently, TV,  radio medias and people talking about iPhone’s secret file. Apple was secretly creating a log of most (but not all!?) my travels after OS4. They’ve been doing it for a year and storing the data in an unencrypted file “consolidated.db”, and no one knows exactly for what purpose. Many people upset, but for me, sometimes nice, I forgot some coordinate at the field, But it’s not excellent yet. if iPhone records entire location every minute or so, It will be perfect! You can find out location using this free program “iPhone Tracker”. Works great!!  You can download from “http://petewarden.github.com/iPhoneTracker/”
