Yes, colder weather bring many problem…ski lift stop, ice fog..but several things we could enjoy out side!

We need finalize Denali proposal very soon for next summer (June). Idea is that to install (just) temperature sensors on air, ground surface and ground with Iridium based satellite datalogger simmilar like Kilimanjaro setting.
First candidate site, at the West Buttress between 14K and 17K Camps. You will see the trail lower part of this picture. But not much rocks exposed…
IR image of the same location, Rocks were already positive temperature on May 10 by the solar radiation.
Around 14K Camp (medical Camp) is another candidate (picture below). But steep and narrow open sky for satellite communication…
But anyway, we need permission first!! That try to negotiate next week.
near football field, climbers walking on snow
surface temperature at the same time (May 10, 2005) around Denali Pass (Annual Mean Surface Temperature -27dC)
Cold day below 20s, Tanana River still open and generate many fog near Delta Junction
Seems Golden Gate Bridge!!
We try to develop 3D visualization material for 100 years glacier & permafrost history on Kilimanjaro working with Vavilov Institute for the History of Science and Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences
Typical cold day and nice sun set toward to the Denali
Addition of the ground surface freezing degree days!! It was typical cold winter reached 2600 degee days in 2011-2012. Our longest frost tube (5.3m deep!!) works and frost depth reached close to 3m in March 2012!!
*freezing degree days plotted reverse scale
Ground surface temperature at forest floor (Annual mean -2.5 degree C, Max. 17 degree C, Min. -32 degree C)
