Arches NP

Arches is the one of the popular National Parks! So many arches in here. If we pick two of the impressive arches, we would say landscape arch and delicate arch.

Parking lots are clouded all popular trailhead.

Delicate arch

Landscape arch

Some layer of the sandstone has some polygonal structure!!! It must be desiccation process 200 milion years ago.

Canyonlands NP, The Needles

We drove to Canyonlands National Park at Needles (lower) side. The temperature is hot almost 100dF.

Upper Colorado Plateau is not dramatic as much as lower part (Grand Canyon etc.), however, less people and  long trail systems feel more feel together.

Tumble weeds (Russian thistle) are very common in wild west. here is full of stack of Tumble weeds at the end of lee side. This made problem in NP. Tumble weeds are feel like trade mark of Western Movie but this is invasive plant from Russia late 1870s.

Monument Valley

I am back to Monument Valley. These rocks are always significant and giving me chance to think about life and power.

At this time, I drove my Ford F150 with camper from Alaska. It is easy to stay anywhere. When I took picture at night. I see so many city light here. I could not do long exposure.

This was same angle picture I took in 1986. You see almost no light (just town of Mexican Hat).

Town of Mexican Hat’s trade mark “Mexican Hat”

Zion

Zion National Park has well organized buses (every 7-10 min.) and stations. It was free to go in and out by own vehicle 25 years ago. but more people visiting today, it need something like this system.

Main body of the sand stone is former dune. its structures and weathering (tahoni) are beautiful.

seeping water made unique biomes here.

Race track stones

Death Valley has interesting features “race track”. these stones are moving on the drained lake surface.

There is many post cards for this track and stones (maybe one of the most well printed stones of the world!), but size is never known from post caed or guide books. the size of stones are about head size or smaller.

One of the possible hypotheses, stones moves by strong wind during cold (frost) days with wet surface.

The way going to the Race track is not easy. We have to drive gravel road about 27 miles. At this time, I have a f-150 driving from Alaska. This is the car that easy to go anywhere!

Death Valley giant polygons

Last three years, I keep coming back to Death Valley. But coming delay toward summer, it means hotter and hotter. Finally, we got 102dF today.

Valley basin has giant polygons, the cause of this polygons are not clearly understand. maybe decication process with groundwater level drop down…

going to desert country

There is no road open except I-80 and southern route, because of so many snow in Sierra Nevada. We pick Bakersfield to Mojave to escape for dry country!

A lots of wind mil along the road.

Camping at middle of desert with spring stars! Scorpion is just coming up at east.
