Denali -Mt.McKinley

Denali (known as Mount McKinley for other countries…) is not just highest mountain of North America, But also coldest mountain in the world, because of latitude. All (14) of higher than 8000m mountains are located mid latitude. Since Japan Alpine Club (Ohkura-san) set up meteorological station at Denali pass 20 years now. The way going to St. Paul Island this morning, I could see beautiful Denali from airplane.

Also last week, the way back from Nikolai, I could see Denali different angle…

Mr. Okura and his crew climbed Denali every year. That was big effort and great data collecting… We, our program, also participant this project as measuring ground (rock and snow) temperature.

North Facing slope of summit area is cold like -60dC during winter  and really above 0dC!  This is not count wind chill factor.
